When you read the creation account in Genesis, you find that the earth is very special. In fact, all the other heavenly bodies; the sun, moon and stars, were made for signs and seasons for the earth. The earth is the center of God’s attention. It is not just an ordinary hunk of rock. But the influence of evolutionary ideas has indoctrinated many people into believing that the earth is not special. One of the most influential evolutionists, the late Carl Sagan, said this to the world just before he died: “We live on a hunk of rock and metal that circles a humdrum star that is one of 400 billion other stars that make up the Milky Way Galaxy, which is one of billions of other galaxies which make up a universe, which may be one of a very large number, perhaps infinite number, of other universes. That is a perspective on human life and culture that is well worth pondering.” I think that there is an abundant amount of hopelessness in that statement. But there is purpose and meaning in the statement from Genesis: “In the Beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Evolutionists say that when they look at nature, Today, when you watch a nature show on television, it is a rarity that you don’t get at least one reference to evolution. You often see a propaganda piece that declares that there’s a world of death and struggle that’s been evolving for millions of years. However, in the book of Job, we are told to let the beasts, the fish, the fowl of the air and the earth teach us. They declare to us that God made everything, and that the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind is in His hands. But like evolutionists, we would come to wrong conclusions about God if we just looked at nature without using God’s Word as a lens to understand what we see. That’s because nature is full of death, bloodshed, disease and suffering. It is only when we put on our biblical glasses using the lens of Scripture that we can see the creation and understand why there is death, bloodshed, disease and suffering, and beauty at the same time. It is only the Bible that tells about a perfect creation, marred by sin and death, as a consequence that enables us to understand this.

If all the people in the world are descendants of just
two parents, then why do billions of people
today look We all get one set of genes from our father, and another from our mother. This results in a combination that’s different from our parents. But all the information in our genes comes from our parents. Let’s get an idea of how much variability is really found in our genes. If we were to take just two people, one man and a woman, then, if it were possible, do you know how many children they could have without two looking exactly the same? More than the atoms in the known universe. That is an incredible amount of variability. Think about this, there are estimated to be about 1080 atoms in the universe. But the possible different combinations of genes from just two people are more than 102000! God put this same sort of variability into the genes of animals. That is why we see a lot of variation. But this has nothing to do with evolution as Darwin taught. People stay people and dogs stay dogs, just as the Bible says in Genesis. In other words, there are not dats and there are not cogs. |
